Well before the day, he will contact the Bride or Bride’s Parents and run through the reception in detail, covering all aspects such as timings, caterers, photographer, music during the reception, speeches and evening entertainment. Basically it is all to do with

who does what, why and when, so by the end of the discussion, the bridal party will have a good idea on the format of the day as well as full confidence in the way the Toastmaster will organise the day in total accordance with how they wish it.

On the wedding day itself, he will arrive at the reception venue well before anyone arrives from the Church to make sure that everything is as it should be, to familiarise himself with the surroundings and make himself well known to the banqueting manager or whoever is in charge with the catering. It is this teamwork that is vital for the overall success of the day.

He welcomes the Bride and Groom followed by all the guests and makes sure that everyone knows where to go. The formal photo shoot is next on the list during the initial part of the reception and at a pre-arranged time will organise the introduction line-up into the meal. He announces the entry of the happy couple and if required will say Grace. During the meal, he will make any announcements as requested, arrange the ceremony of cutting the wedding cake and finally announce the speakers correctly and in order.

All this is just a part of the role of the professional Toastmaster, for like an iceberg, so much or his work is unseen, but it is his continuous attention to detail and skilled liaison throughout the day that ensures it runs smoothly, on time and to perfection.
