Tennis at Holbrook House

Once again we are at that time of year where, weather permitting, we think about a game of Tennis. Here at Holbrook we are fortunate to not only have a hard court but also a grass court, one of very few in the area. The good news is that these courts are free to members to use, simply book your court time at the Club reception. The hard court is locked and the key is available, again, at the Club reception. We are often asked about starting a Tennis Club & holding our own Club Competition, we would be happy to both so if you are interested please let the reception team know. Over past years we have been asked if we have a ‘Tennis Buddy’, system, a way of matching up players who may be of a similar standard but don’t have a regular tennis partner, once again we are happy to help out & would again ask you to speak with a member of the reception team.

Swimming lessons.
After reviewing our Swimming Lessons and their popularity, we have decided to put on extra classes during children's swim times.
As from the beginning of August Kat will be taking group lessons for children on Mondays and Wednesdays 4.00-5.00pm. These will be broken up into two 30 minute classes with a maximum of 4 children per group. It will run over an 8 week course and will cost £36.00.

There will also be children's 1-1 lessons on Tuesdays 4.00-5.00pm. These will be broken up into three 20 minute lessons which will also run as an 8 week course and cost £46.00 per child.

For these times the pool will not be closed, but the instructor will rope off a section of the pool for the lessons.
Adult lessons are on Monday evenings between 7.00-8.00pm and for this hour the swimming pool will be closed.

Olympic Challenge

The current Club Team Challenge is now well under way & it’s tight at the top. At the time of writing the Yellow Team head the way with 17,217m.  In second place, the not so untouchable Red Team! with 15,453m covered.  In third place, the Green Team on 12,990m covered.  And just behind in fourth place! Channel Swim

Have you ever wondered just how crazy some of the Holbrook members and staff can be?

Fitness Instructor Kat Baker and Holbrook members Karen Lewis and Ian Reade have joined up with 3 other people to swim the English Channel from Dover to France in September 2008.

Battling the risk of Hypothermia, 4 foot waves and jelly fish, they hope to reach France within 12-14 hours, but there is a big possibility that they could still be swimming into the night.

No person in a Standard relay attempt to swim the Channel shall use or be assisted by an artificial aid of any kind, but is permitted to grease the body before a swim, use goggles, wear one cap and one costume. The word "costume and cap" shall mean a garment, not made of neoprene or rubber or any other material considered by the Federation to give a similar type of advantage, and not in any way designed to contain body heat, and/or aid buoyancy.

The Tanning Booth is Going !
Unfortunately, it is now no longer cost effective to have the Tanning Booth, so it will be leaving on September 30th and the last day you will be able to buy sun bed sessions will be the Tuesday 20th July.

I apologise to all users and as a way of compensation to everyone who currently has a sun bed card, we are offering a 25% discount to your first spray tan session.
