Spa Holbrook Newsletter March 2004
Happy Easter !

Welcome to our first month completely on line!! Im glad that we have made the step into cyber space. In the coming months I hope to change the format of the newsletter slightly so that you can look to the areas that interest you first on the web page.
Easter is almost upon us, in addition, over the coming weeks we have many events here at the Spa and we would love you to get involved.
Ladies Day at the Races Sunday 4th April at Wincanton Racecourse
We have a package available for 50. This includes a three course luncheon in a private box in the Wessex Stand, a Premier enclosure badge and a complementary race card. There are limited spaces available so do book early.
On Saturday 3rd April Spa Holbrook will be opening its doors to the public. You already know the benefits of regular exercise and the pleasures of belonging to the club but we are hoping to spread the word to other local people who have yet to conquer their fears and come to meet us. We will be showing guests around the club and giving them mini inductions in the gym. If you know anyone who might be interested we shall be happy to welcome them between 10am and 4pm.
There are plenty of tickets left for all the games advertised throughout the club. If you would like to go to the Powergen Cup Final then do be quick as that match is approaching rapidly!
Member of the Month is Rosemary Ballance, selected by Irene because of her commitment in achieving her goals and she is a lovely person!
Members Loyalty Scheme winners
Ted Moore, with 50 visits wins a two nights dinner bed and breakfast for two people at Holbrook House.
Veryan Holmes with 40 visits wins one night for two at Holbrook House.
Neville Hartnell, with 30 visits wins a days pamper package.
Richard Bancroft with 20 visits wins a free dinner at Holbrook House.
John Griffin with 10 visits wins a free lunch at Holbrook House.
Beginning in April we will be introducing a card system, which is aimed at offering you total exercise support. Each time you complete your gym record card we will clip on a card offering a refresher session. As you progress through cards your program needs adapting to make sure you continue to achieve the most from your workouts. The card will invite you to book a session with an instructor, you may only want a quick chat but regular contact will help.
Our Wincanton to Paris challenge is now well under way, at the present time the Green team are storming ahead but there is still plenty of time. On an individual basis the competition is much closer, although we have noted that the ladies are currently covering the distances much quicker.
Congratulations go to Maggie Buckler for being the first to row across the channel and she wins a bottle of bubbly!! There are still two more bottles of champagne available for who ever completes the run from Holbrook to Dover and the cycle section from Calais to Paris.
May I remind members of the Red team that hitchhiking is not allowed and neither is the ferry across the channel!
For the individual winner there is a great prize of 300 worth of wine, so keep going!
Fitness Suite Music
Here at Spa Holbrook we are always striving to offer the best and democratic service, at the current time we would like to ask for your comments on how you feel about the music we play over the main speaker in the Fitness Suite. We would ask you to put your comments in writing or speak to any of the Club staff or email me at [email protected]. We would specifically like to know what type and volume of music you prefer at specific times of the day.
Many thanks to all of you who are supporting Charlotte and Steve in their no smoking challenge. Michelle gave them both Hypnotherepy on Thursday 11th March and will continue to see them over the month. Apart from the money you raise, Steve and Charlotte will be donating the money they have saved to Cancer Research UK. If you would like any information regarding the treatment they have received please contact Michelle on 01749 830122. Information about her work is also around the club.
If you have been injured through sport or other activities we can help. We have our in house physiotherapist, Jackie Moss who offers an extensive range of treatments. She has currently extended her hours on Monday nights from 4pm till 7pm (and would take bookings at 7pm if she was really busy). Sports massage is just one of the services Jackie provides.
On Monday 5th April a new dedication award scheme will be launched. This will combine both the fitness suite and the classes.
Every ten workouts, you will receive a 10 gift voucher that can be put towards many of the services and products we have here at Spa Holbrook. You will also receive a complementary day pass.
From the start of May classes at the club will be for members only. If you are an Off Peak member and you would like to attend classes in the evenings you may purchase a pre-pay class card from reception, entitling you to ten classes for 50 (5 per class). These cards will be available from the beginning of April. Alternatively you may wish to become a full time member at an additional 14 a month.
Unfortunately Total Workout on a Tuesday evening will no longer be running, as Karen is unable to do the class anymore. Also Hatha Yoga on a Tuesday afternoon with Marge Rooke will be stopping due to poor attendance.
But this does provide space for other classes, so if you have any suggestions of what you might like to see let me know and Ill see what can be arranged.
May we remind parents that the spa bath is restricted to over 16s only. We would kindly ask anyone who uses the cardio-theatre headsets, to kindly ensure that the volume is not left on the maximum when you have finished.
And Finally.
I have to apologise for a letter received by all members who joined pervious to April 2003, regarding membership fees.
I understand there was a great deal of confusion surrounding the content. Just to make you aware that this letter was written by my father, John McGinley, he says that his grammar might not be that good, but at least the Irish can play rugby!!
Now for an English translation:
We are aiming to bring all memberships fees to the same level by January 2005. This only affects members who joined before April 2003 and are on monthly subscription. The current fees are; 49 for a single, 84 for a couple and 35 for off peak. The increase will be in three stages starting with April 2004, then October 2004 and finally January 2005. At each stage your membership fee will increase by 1 per person. Bringing all members to the same rate by January 2005.
I hope that has cleared everything up!
Friday 9th and Monday 12th we will be open from 8am till 6pm. During Easter Weekend we are open as normal.
Quiz Night Steve is very keen to run another evening of mind-boggling questions, please let us know if you are interested. Great prizes available and its always a fun and sociable evening.
If you have any queries about Spa Holbrook about any matter then send me an email at [email protected] or a letter and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
